But why are we urgent about it?
Urgency is current and fleeting.
Urgency’s very nature begs us to, like nature, be gone with the wind.
The paradox of urgency is that though it cannot be measured, it is largely contingent on time and time is measurable and quantifiable.
It is arguable that our values may determine for us, what is urgent.
One may view it urgent to provide basic care to her infant at all times but it mightn’t view another infant’s care with the same level of urgency.
In understanding levels of urgency, what factor determines what is urgent to the infant’s mother above? Is it our values?
If our values determine what is urgent, it could mean that there are levels to what we value and this level of value determines what is important and subsequently urgent.
Often times, the pressures of urgency consumes us so much that we are are debilitated by the degrees of importance to choose from.
By observation, what is important to me, is what I will consider as important.
If rest, love and leisure is important to me, I may not be encouraged to work overtime.
Someone who highly values money, may decide to work overtime, to the detriment of his leisure and rest threshold.
But, what happens when both money and rest is important to me and I’m being asked to work overtime.? What happens when I have competing values.
What then, will I decide, what is urgent to me?
