Observing Nature, Being Mindful – July 17, 2021

I’m hearing music by the Mighty Diamonds, a retro, but pivotal group in the formation of Jamaican reggae.

It is my mom’s day off from work today but she insists on answering calls from feaeful and bewildered patients. She is a gem.

My grandmother and her visiting brother are speaking about a contract their father lost in the 1950’s in Jamaica. They still see this an accomplishment of a poor black man under the, at the time, still British colonized Jamaica.

They are drinking coffee and reminiscing on the days of walking barefoot to and from school.

My grandmother is 79, her brother is 70. He is the youngest of 17 children.

Their father had 9 children with his wife and simultaneously had children with his mistress next door. The wife and mistress bonded over his funeral in 1968. My grandmother characterizes her father as a very principled man.

The wind is calm and the sun is barely peaking.

I now only have 1 Finch bird and she is constantly crying out for her dead partner.

He died mysteriously 3 days ago. Finches don’t do well alone so I better hurry to find her a new partner.

I feel uncivilised for keeping them caged.

I have partially adopted a street dog as company to my 15 month old Shihtzu.

I’m afraid that my constant watering of plants is contributing to the increase in water rate. The earth is dry and rain is a rarity.

Something has to give. My plants are smiling as I water them fiercely this Friday Morning
