How To Successfully Trick Procrastination To Get Things Done.

If you’re guilty about the chronic tendency to procrastinate because you can think of a current task which appears as a gargantuan thing that cannot get done, then, you’re not alone.

Nowadays I’ve realized that I’ve been treating tasks as a video game and the cast is depending on me , an experienced heroine, to beat the master villain of this action packed world.

Since I’m the star of this game, we aren’t concerned with who is holding the game console . I can admit that that topic would be for another blog.

In times of desperation, I’ve had to find creative ways to like doing the difficult things, the hard stuff. I’ve had to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Many times , I like to trick my mind into thinking that the task I’m delaying , is at an advanced round and that I, the most skilled heroine in the video game is warming up to tackle this feat. This task I’ve even called killing the deadly villain.

Whenever I’m playing this game in my mind, I happen to conjure up feelings and images of being strong, courageous and bold , My artillery and  machinery are state of the art and this is known  amongst the other characters, including the deadly villain.

Therefore, if I’m to write 500 words on my blog today, as a skilled fighter, this feat has no place in my field of vision. I will finish it with vigour 🙂

See myself as a A Samurai

Sometimes, I view myself as a Samurai with a sword who needs to cook today instead of eating out,  stick within my budget so that I may save money, eat on time, rest well tonight and think clearly tomorrow.

This is where I prove myself to the successor of the deadly villian, the master procrastinator mortal kombat.

The Courageous Army General

It surely doesn’t hurt having the Prime Minister’s recognition for bravery as a prestigous award.

This is why I love to imagine myself being the courageous Army General who was able to trump the  most recent national and international threat to protect the safety and rights of the people. I Imagined that the world or my country is depending on me to do this one task ,do that short course and update it on my resume, have that difficult but vulnerable conversation with your partner, parent or boss.

As a matter of fact, I’m so certain that as an Army General I will complete this task that I proceed to update the resume before even completing the course, schedule the difficult conversation for Friday of this week and I show up, not perfectly , but as a skilled visionary.

That’s the spirit.

These may seem very simplistic and you may be an anal to do list extraordinaire and have no trouble completing what you’re tasked to do.

But if you’re like me and you need a jolt of energy to move a task from “to do’  to ‘done’, then please join me in re-imagining that the world is depending on you because you have the skills and temperament to get the work done.

This is a badge of honour that I’m certain almost anyone will hold high in esteem.

How much do you struggle with Procrastination on a scale of 1-5,  5 being a chronic procrastinator.?
