I admit.
I have a problem with overspending, especially where gadgets are concerned. I’m not certain where this stems from or how it started but I feel fulfilled whenever I have more than 1 of the same gadget.
I’ve built a little business of buying and selling gadgets but in hindsight, I may have done this under the guise to overspend and feel complete with even more gadgets.
There are a few people close to me who realizes this and have tackled me about it but I was not ready to confront the issue or perhaps the approach was frightening.
But now I’m ready. I’m ready because the effects of overspending can trickle down and show it’s ugly head into different scenarios, especially whenever I least expect it.
What if I or someone gets seriously Ill and up front cash is needed to assist in caring for the person? The guilt of overspending will not help me in that moment and so I need to curb this bad habit since prevention is better than cure.
I want to prevent and change my environment so that I’m not tempted to overspend.
I can do so by;
1. Avoiding Amazon for 1 week
2. Avoid going into tech stores
3. Desist from asking my tech guy about the prices of things.
4. Unsubscribe from tech new release newsletters.
But today, I’m ready.
I need to do this for me so that I do not frustrate the list of things that I’m anxious about. If I can help myself to reduce stress inducing situations, why not start now?
Today, I got a new cell phone for my birthday and instead of selling or trading the one I already own, I was tempted to keep both. The habit may not appear to be harmful but if the older phone is sold, this can be a saving of USD800 for me .
I have avoided all literature about improving finances because I wasn’t ready to face the bull by the horn.
What situation are you avoiding?
